26 New Babies/More Homeschool Science

We have been considering moving out of the country despite how much we enjoy it to be closer to church and all of the activities we go to. However, we decided that we enjoyed the country too much and did not want to give that up. Instead, we decided to make efforts to enjoy the country even more to outweigh the hassle of driving so much. So, we decided to get some chickens again. We got a call waking us up this morning at 5:30 am from the post office to let us know that our baby chickens had finally arrived! I woke myself up and fed Little Ladybug. The phone also woke up Lion Queen who wanted to come with me. By the time I had left Monkey Boy and Little Bear were also up. So, off to the post office at 6:30 we headed for the babies. The kids were so excited to have them. The babies are Brahma chickens in case you were interested in their breed. I got an assortment of Buff(reddish ones), Light(yellow), and Dark(Brown and Black spotted ones). It looks like I ended up with 13 light, 6 buff, and 7 dark. When they are fully feathered, the light ones will be white with black, the buff a reddish brown, and the dark will be black with white. This breed of chickens is known for being big and friendly. They have feathered feet. This is one of the breeds I had several years ago when I had chickens and they were such a favorite that I only got this breed this time around. They will be living in a large cage in our house for a few weeks until they fully feathered out and ready to be transferred outside. I have enjoyed hearing them chirp and peep in their corner all day today! And because we homeschool and turn many things into educational opportunities, we can call this some more science! :) We are looking forward to enjoying some fresh eggs and having them eat some of the bugs around here for us.

Oh they are so cute! I'm not a big animal person, but seeing these little guys makes me kind of want one! I hope they are still little when we come at Thanksgiving! We're so excited to see you guys and to see your new house!
